How does Rainbow Finance work?
vAMM Mechanism
In the field of DeFi, AMM (automated market maker) is used to describe a protocol that uses constant product function x * y = k for price discovery and token swaps. vAMM (Virtual Automated Market Maker) uses the same constant product curve of x * y = k as AMM. But an important difference with the vAMM is that no swap is occurring. In the rainbow finance perpetual contract, the real asset pool is stored in the vault that manages all the margins backing the vAMM. Rainbow Finance only uses vAMM as a price discovery mechanism, but not for spot trading, so there will not be impermanence loss.
vAMM can be compared to a virtual asset pool. There are two kinds of virtual assets X and Y in the pool. The product of the two kinds of virtual assets always keeps a constant k. When we send more assets y into the pool, that is, Y increases. Because k is constant, the number of X will decrease, and the reduced part of X will be taken out of the pool. This process is equivalent to trading y assets into assets x.
